This series contains administrative records of the Consolidated Ute Agency, and its predecessor agencies, with the Commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, other federal agencies such as the Weather Bureau, Civil Service Commission, and Pension Bureau; also federal and state courts, agents of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Federal Reserve and state banks, and the Durango and Rio Grande Railroad.
The records are grouped under decimal code topic headings. The major divisions of the decimal codes are General and Statistical Information, Administrative, Financial and Accounting, Lands, Buildings and Building Equipment, Supplies and Farm Stock, Military Activities, Health and Social Relations, Education, and Industries and Employment. The files contain school records for the Sundry, Carlisle, Albuquerque, Haskell, Grand Junction, Santa Fe, Fort Lewis, Chilocco, Oklahoma, Southern Ute, Ute Mountain, and Phoenix Indian schools. Additionally, the Education file code section deals with topics of religious education, off reservation boarding schools, attendance, and census records. The General and Statistical Information section primarily contains monthly and statistical reports. The Administrative Records cover a variety of topics such as intertribal and tribal relations, ethnology, and Indian courts, and include correspondence with Mesa Verde National Park, tribal census records, and copies of Executive Orders and Acts of Congress. The Financial and Accounting section contains inspection reports, individual Indian money accounts, receipts for goods, audits, payroll records, property returns, annuity payments, and oil and gas leases. Topics in the Land files include timber sales, sale of government property, Ute Indian Land, inheritance and succession, right of way accounts, and survey and field notes. The Building and Building Equipment section contains blueprints and records of construction and repair. Files under the Supplies and Farm Stock decimal code contain information about livestock and the Indian Livestock Association, farmer's reports, and cattle sales. In the Health and Social Relations code, there are birth, death, and marriage records, along with information about Ute Indian activity in the Red Cross; and medical records, including reports of epidemics and contagious diseases. Finally, in the Industry and Employment section, the files cover employees, both native and non-native, Indian traders, Indian reservation police, and applications and appointments for employment.
